Q: How far is King K9 Academy from Cape Elizabeth? About 50 minutes north on I-295. It’s the longest drive in my service area, but Cape Elizabeth clients make it regularly — and I have clients who travel from Washington DC, New York, Delaware, and Martha’s Vineyard because they can’t find this kind of training environment where they live. If people are traveling from out of state, 50 minutes from Cape Elizabeth is nothing.
Q: Is pick-up service available for Cape Elizabeth and South Portland? Yes. Cape Elizabeth and South Portland are within my pick-up corridor, which runs from Portland to Waterville, for a small fee. You’ll come to the farm to pick your dog up — that’s when I conduct your owner transfer lesson so you leave knowing exactly how to maintain everything your dog learned.
Q: What makes your dog training different from options closer to Cape Elizabeth? Most programs closer to Cape Elizabeth have your dog living in someone’s basement, garage, or spare room and training in their backyard. Here, your dog trains on open acreage around sheep, chickens, and ducks, works through a confidence course, and goes on field trips to midcoast towns and stores. I train every dog myself — no assistants, no rotating staff — and I take three dogs at a time. That combination of environment and personal attention is hard to find in southern Maine, which is why people travel from across the region and out of state to get here.
Q: What programs do you offer and how much do they cost? I offer three board and train programs starting at $1,250, including options for puppies, on-leash obedience, and full off-leash obedience. I also run small group classes at the farm with a maximum of three dogs. All programs include owner transfer lessons and phone/email support, with options for professional equipment and pick-up service. With over 50 five-star reviews, we’re one of the most trusted dog training programs in Maine. Call (207) 248-7900 for a free consultation.
Q: Can I visit the farm before enrolling my dog? If you book a consultation or evaluation, you’ll come to the farm and see the property, the training areas, and how everything runs. I don’t do casual drop-in tours since I’m actively working with dogs throughout the day, but a scheduled visit gives you the full picture and a chance to talk about your dog in person.
